There are 57 steps to get to the lower church of the Basilica. The grandiose building was built based on the plans of the architect János Packh. When we arrive, we immediately encounter two huge statues, the works of the Viennese sculptor Andreas Schroth, which symbolize Passing away and Eternal Life. There are several valuable tombstones from the old cathedral in the lower church, the most interesting of which are the cover of the tombstones of Archbishop János Vitéz (1472) and Archbishop Dénes Széchy (1465).
